Beauty and the Beast

or so it may seem...

I was just remembering that second picture when writing about nose rings. Yup, that was me at 15 or 16. I don't really remember. Pink hair, dread locks (don't know if you can see them - there were just a few on top), nose ring. I was remembering how often I got judged for my looks at Church. One time I was visiting my Grandma, and she was on the phone with a lady from Church. When my granny explained that she had to go because I was at the door, that lady just said how she'd never let her grandkids into her house the way I looked. I loved my Grandma's response. She just told her that my heart was gold and she couldn't care less about how I looked and hung up on the lady. Way to go Grandma!

I also had to think back on how despite my unorthodox Mormon look, I kept all commandments faithfully (while surrounded by drinking and pot smoking people), went to Church each Sunday, participated not only in Seminary but also qualified for the scripture chase weekends they did for those who really knew their stuff, volunteered at the animal shelter as well as the asylum seeker shelters on a weekly basis, and yadayadayada...I didn't look the part, but I was the part in deeds. And then despite what probably everyone thought, I still turned out ok - served a mission, finished college magna cum laude, and even got married. I could think of quite a few girls who looked "just right", and their stories are more along the lines of what you would have expected with my looks. Funny how that goes.

Looks can be so deceiving. That's why it seems so silly to me to get hung up on stuff (like looks) that is just temporary, and oftentimes fairly meaningless. Does that mean that I'll promote nose rings, dread locks and pink hair with my kids. Probably not. But if at some point that's what they want to do, I won't let that concern me as much as the state of their hearts!

I think you should have kept that look, Fran. Pink's definitely your color :)

Hahaha, yeah well, especially since Sis. Dalton just declared that pink reflects the soft, feminine side of the young women of the Church. I was just way ahead of the times, I guess. If only people could have understood that I was just showing my soft feminine side through my hair color. Oh well. :)

You're gorgeous in the top picture! Very well said. Thanks for your insights. We are praying the baby turns. Let us know when she does please.

Sehr witzig.

LOL at Henry's reminder that "pink reflects the soft, feminine side of the young women of the church"

Sechs Ohrringe!
