Vote Away
I know some of you have already mentioned opinions, but I'd like them in a poll. I think we'll have a hard time choosing which name to call our little girl by. We really love both Alba and Zoë, and we like them in that order as well. We just don't want to call her both - seems like a mouth full. So, I'm happy to get some input. Maybe it'll help us figure out what we want. Maybe not. :)

I vote you call her Zoe. Stephanie votes Alba. She says "when else do you get to call someone Alba?"
I vote Alba. When I hear Zo-EE I think of SOOEY - the hog call for pigs. sorry. because the emphasis is on the ee.

I think Alba is a beautiful name, but only if people pronounce it the way you ask them too. Alba without a beautiful A sound would grate against my ears if I were her mother. I would call her Alba if I were willing to correct pronunciation endlessly and Zoe if I weren't.

(But really, I think YOU guys need to make that decision, one that YOU are comfortable with).
If I had listened to other people's opinions when it comes to naming my children, well, I would not be happy now. :D
Ok, just to clarify...honestly, as much as I treasure all of you, I do not care about your specific opinions in this matter. In other words, I don't care whether Zoe sounds like a hog call, or stuff like that. I don't care if people think the names are weird, need too much correction - whatever.
I just wanted a poll that suggested one name over another. :) Because, I honestly can't decide right now. Neither can Henry. I really really love both names. I love how rare of a name Alba will be. It'll be truly unique! Zoe is definitely more of a trendy name right now, which puts me off a bit. Then again, I've loved this name for so long. If we call her Zoe, the greatest thing will be that Alba won't completely fall by the wayside, because people who first meet her, officials etc. will still call her Alba. If we went with Alba, Zoe will basically disappear other than on paper and maybe priesthood blessings. So, I think I may lean towards Zoe. But then again...now I'm really thinking about maybe swapping the names around after all. Arrghhhhh!!!! Why did we have to end up with 2 names we love.
But, anyway, thanks for your input nonetheless. It certainly didn't bother me at all. I just wanted to clarify that you're not necessarily gonna push me one way or another just because you have an opinion on the name. I just thought that in the end, maybe it may help us to decide to think that most people prefer one name over the other. Who knows. Luckily, we still have lots of time to figure out this small name details.
I really think they're both beautiful and that maybe you should do the southern thing and hyphenate them... and call her Albe-Zoe. Ok, so it's just another "idea."
Haha, Heidi, I've actually contemplated that idea. And I'm still thinking about that as an option. I'm just wondering if that may just be too much, you know, kind of a mouth full. And then people (or us) will still end up just calling her one or the other.
This is just so weird to me. I like to think of myself as overly decisive. I feel like I usually know right away what I want. With this, I feel like I simply can't decide one way or another. Henry is no help. He doesn't know either, and will probably be fine with whatever I suggest/decide. :)
Maybe we simply have to wait until we hold her in our arms, and it'll be clear to us then. Maybe some things simply can't be decided until birth. Who knows. All I know is that I'm about as indecisive on this as I've ever been in my life.
I vote to call her Alba and we can tell her that Zoe is what we wanted to call her before but since she took two times to come to us we moved it to her middle name. I think it's fitting that Zoe means "life".

I have a friend named Mary Alice (no hyphen necessary) who really went by Mary Alice. A few people would shorten it to just Mary but everyone knew her name was Mary Alice. That might be your perfect solution--Alba Zoe has the same number of syllables; I don't think it's too much. And an added perk--I think its easier to put the emphasis of Zoe on the second syllable when it is said all together and makes the Zoe not so trendy because it is part of another name.
I have an uncle who wanted all of his children named after relatives, but my aunt really liked the name Katie, but there is no one in the family with that name - except my cousin. Aunt Joann turned in the form for the birth certificate for Katie Ruth before Uncle Glenn had a chance to do anything about it. She introduces herself most often as Katie, but signs things as Katie Ruth (whether or not she signs her last name)Most people call her Katie, Glenn calls her Katie Ruth or Ruth, and everybody knows (whether they often use both names or not) that she is Katie Ruth - they don't all know that her brother David is actually Glen David.
My son Troy answers to Troy, Friedrich, and Friedo. Because for months before he was born he was baby Friedrich while Tobi tried to decide on a first name.
I think use of two names, whether or not both are always used adds more character - it at least makes for more conversation.
I also wanted to add, that I think Reni may be onto something - that using both names together will increase the likelihood that Amis will say it properly.
