Scary Nightmares

Does anyone else have horrible nightmares besides me? Just wondering...I used to have so many horrible, truly horrible nightmares as a teenager. If it wasn't me getting murdered, it was some other family member dying in some horrific way. Some of those images have been so terrifying that I've never been able to quite forget them. And I've never watched any horror movies. I wonder where those nightmares come from???? Anyway, since I've gotten married, I started having a different kind of nightmare. The one I had two nights ago, I've had several times already in different variations. They always are about the same - Henry leaving me. In each dream, I'm just beyond heartbroken because of it, and in each dream, Henry is about as cold and indifferent to my pain as a person could possibly be. He simply doesn't care, at all. And will just walk away from me. In the one I had a few nights ago, this time we also got into a fight over who got to keep Sophia. We both wanted her. And usually, at some point, I wake up from the dream, either crying, or with tears in my eyes because I'm so incredibly sad (about Henry leaving me etc.). And it also usually involves me then waking up Henry to make sure he has no plans of leaving me and that all is well. Those dreams always seems so freakishly real when I dream them.

Why do I dream this crap? Am I the only one? Really...I'm curious...

Well, I've had a few dreams where I am married to someone besides Mike, but I really just want to be with Mike. Those are weird dreams... At least we're not all living in a polygamist marriage in your dreams... (:

I've had some of these exact kind of dreams of Todd leaving me and they maake me so upset and sad and horrified. I hate them!

Haha, I know what kind of nightmares you have, Kari! If your dreams became true, rest assured they'd then be my nightmares as well. Hehehe...

Deanna, I'm glad I'm not the only one dreaming weird stuff like that. Maybe it just shows what some of my deepest fears are or something, and I think Henry walking out on me would be about the worst thing possible other than maybe our children dying...

Troy has them about me all the time. My nightmares usually involve water and drowning. No wonder I panic around lakes, streams and oceans :)

I'm glad I never have real nightmares like you guys. Sometimes I dream about clinic. I guess that could be kind of scary.

I only dreamed funky dreams (that I remembered) during my pregnancies. Just a thought to throw out there.

I definitely dream weird stuff when I'm pregnant, but the nightmares are not pregnancy-related. Mainly because I had them also when not pregnant (and maybe more so...like all my teenage years where I swear I was NOT pregnant).

Sarah, I also have nightmares about drowning (it's my worst way of dying, and I'm pretty afraid to be on water or above water for hours in an airplane). But, those dreams are still not as bad as my other nightmares.

Why do people even have nightmares??? Shouldn't sleep be a time of rest and blissful happiness?

Water in dreams can stand for emotions. Are you drowning in the water of your emotions? is it a passing water (river), stagnant (lake)?
Many of our anxieties surface at night, when we allow them to, when our rational side is asleep. Make sure you are regularly reassured by your spouse that you are both committed to each other, discuss things you are afraid of during your awake hours, so that you can rest at night.
Nightmares can be really instructional. And if you record your dreams, and allow them to happen, they'll develop and have an end to it (so the dream story is complete, in three acts, with the last act usually showing the triumph or lesson to be learned). I know this sounds crazy, but I went through dream therapy after my second child, and I learned a lot, and been guided a lot as far as future and present decisions.

I've only ever had two recurring nightmares - that I'm discovered hiding Jews by the Nazis, or that I'm getting married to someone that I don't love.
I had the Nazi nightmare from like 2nd grade until I was in my early 20s. The nightmare part was always that I would think I could have spared myself if I hadn't decided to try and help these others. The nightmares finally stopped when I finished the dream, by telling the voices in my head that I had made a decision that wasn't wrong and I shouldn't waste energy on regretting it. So I think that dream may have found form in American education on WWII starting too earlier and being defined in terms that are a bit more black and white than reality, but the nightmare was really more about me than the history of my Grandparents Generation.
The dreaded wedding nightmares didn't start until my late teens and also ended in my early twenties, when I pointed out to the people in my dreams who were pressuring me to the alter, that the dress they were handing me was not the dress I had picked, and if they couldn't even get the dress right, they had no business picking out the groom.

Long story short - Marie may have a point about allowing dreams/nightmares to happen, develop, and have an end.

I'd like to create ends to Franny's dreams, like instead of drowning you find you can breathe underwater and find some cool hidden treasure or something like that. Maybe I should be more caring and loving.

Huh, so the stuff about letting your nightmares 'play out' or whatever sounds really interesting. But, I don't know how to do that. I mean, how do I consciously choose to have my dreams finish or something, when I don't even consciously choose what is going on. I usually wake up, and that's not because I want to...dunno...

Anyway, Henry you can end my current nightmares immediately by not suggesting more names like (get this people!!!) Michaela, Susanne, Antje, Sabine or Renate.

I swear I'd sleep better immediately.

Renate means rebirth. I liked that one. We can go with Renatia or Reatina. How's that?

I had a dream once where I found out that Rob had died. I was so heartbroken and when I woke up, the emotions were still real and there. I felt so empty.

That's interesting what your friend says about allowing yourself to finish your dream. Sometimes I sort-of wake up from a dream, and sometimes I change the unconscious flow of the dream to a conscious dreams by semi-alertly making choices in the dream to create the ending/resolution I want. I know that sounds weird, but I really have done that in that semi-awake period of in-between sleep and in-between being awake.

Fran, write down your dreams, they'll grow at night. I thought Lehi's dream was very inspiring for his children, and they wrote it down. It surprises me that in the darkest moment of his dream (that had become a nightmare at that point) he cried to God, and came to a place that gave him peace and instructions, and some joy/ sadness too. It wasn't the happiest end learning some of his children were going astray, but it pointed to him what to focus on as a father.

I have the exact same dream about Jonni. It is scary and very upsetting. Recently, I've also had dreams about Fe dying and me standing by, unable to help her. I hate it.

I love Marie-Magdeleine's insight. Thank you!
