Ok, am I the only one, or are there others who don't feel 'hip', or 'chic' or...whatever else. Honestly. Today, I was just doing some blog browsing, and came upon an apron give-away. Then, I looked at the aprons, and suddenly it dawned on me. I'm not 'hip', nor 'chic', nor stylish nor whatever else. I'm frumpy fatty Fran. Urghhh. I just feel out of touch with a lot of the latest and newest in about everything (music, fashion, technology, baby gear). Most of the time it's simply because I don't really care about being part of the 'in' crowd, or all the latest everything. But, I wouldn't mind sometimes to feel like I was part of the cool, all crafty, all photography, all artsy, all designing, all alternative, all gardening, all chic/hip, omnipotent mom crowd. Am I the only one who isn't head over heals for some of the latest fashion trends (I mean really, is the booger color of mustard yellow or whatever it is really coming back????). I want to look hot and trendy, but as I said, I think I'm fat and frumpy. And I don't even have the guts to be trendy when I want to. I'm mean, how can someone expect me, with my frog legs, to put on skinny jeans, and boots over that. Does the world WANT to be nauseated? I don't think so. So, no point punishing anyone, right?
But, what should a non-omnipotent, non-chic/hip mom-girl like me do. Is there an uncool crowd I can join? A crowd with those who only read books and the news, and are lost if they can't buy what they need on amazon.com, craigslist or a random store. A place for those who want to look pretty but don't know how, and half of the time just don't care anymore. A place for those who aren't fat, but do have a few extra pounds. A place for me?

You are not alone you silly woman! Nobody should wear skinny jeans let alone with boots and everbody should read more. I'm always a season behind trends because I shop the clearance racks. I happen to think you have a cool style that I've only ever found on my European friends. Join me and make fun of "cool" people. It's my favorite thing to do.
I do like mustard yellow though. Too bad it looks gross against my pasty skin :) Love the earrings by the way.

WE'll never be hip...The world is changing trends every month. It is much better to be classy with what we have. People respect classy women.
As much as I like new colors and shapes etc...I can't afford to put time, money and energy in trying to be cool. Life is short, and I'll be wearing a nice white dress in heaven anyway.
hahaha, Marie! I just had to laugh out loud when I read that you'll just be wearing a nice white dress in heaven anyway. I love your perspective. I just hope those white dresses in heaven are a little better than what you usually see in the Temple. :)
Oh, I love that we all where white in the Temple, but we don't have to wear the same white dress. I feel like I can really be myself in my temple dress; I missed it on my mission when I had to wear the rented Choir dress/old lady moomoo thing.
I've been suffering the not so stylish slump lately too. But when I would like to buy myself new things, the guilty Mother mode kicks in who realized my old clothes still fit (sort of) but my boys out grow theirs, so the family resources are better used up-dating the boys wardrobe. Maybe I should see what I can dig out of my sewing box, then I just need to read more current fashion magazines for inspiration...it gets so hard to be a girl once you're a mom...

Fran you know that I am among bottom of the barrel pickings when it comes to trendy apparel and such. I think every now and then that I would like to wear the cute clothes and shoes. Have the trendy bags/purses and jewelry. Plus the stylish hair and make-up. Ultimately, it REALLY is not me. I would much rather read than go shopping or think about my "spring" wardrobe. Furthermore, I think you dress in a nice and fashionable manner (I think what Sarah calls European). You also don't go ever the top with trends or fashion - which in my book makes you perfect.
OK, well, I would for sure be in that club, so if there wasn't one before, you just started it, and I am now a member. My favorite app on my iPhone is NPR (I am a little obsessive about reading and listening to it all day long) and it has been a year since I got a haircut. I buy almost all my clothes at Costco, which sometimes look fine but don't turn out to be all that flattering. Costco, thankfully has a good return policy. You are doing better than me on accessories, for sure, since I wear the same gold hoop earrings night and day (for the last ten years). I am that non-fussed about ever changing them, but I don't want to look completely slobbish. But I don't feel too bad about any of that. I did, however, recently buy myself some really cool glasses (much like yours) that I feel create an "I-may-look-frumpy-right-now-but-I-am-actually-a-very-intelligent-and-style-minded-person" look.
