HOME!!!!!

We are so glad to be back home. After having a 5 hour drive on Friday and various wedding events, getting home at 11pm on Friday night, we got up early again on Saturday to get everything ready for my brother's wedding reception. Then the reception at 6pm at which we stayed till 11.30pm, then driving home, packing, moving clocks forward one hour (the time change was this weekend in Germany), then sleeping 4 hours, getting ready to drive for 3 hours to Frankfurt airport (driving 105 miles per hour through beautiful German scenery), then flying for 9 hours to Newark and putting up with rude flight attendants who get annoyed because Henry and I combined our meal trays, so I could put up my table and nurse my baby (outrageous to inconvenience the poor flight attendant with having to pick apart our trash), then dealing with annoying immigrations and customs and finding out you have to go through security again which Fran really really really hates (and then having to go through the screen a billion times because it beeps, only to find out that there was no reason for the beeping), then thinking you are making it to your connecting flight just fine, then finding out your flight got cancelled, and you only get stand-by tickets for a flight 5.5 hours later, then having a thunder storm coming in and not even knowing whether your flight that you don't even know if you'll get on, will be leaving at all, then saying a thousand prayers, making it on the flight, having the flight leave on time, then having the bumpiest flight ever, and thinking you will crash during landing, then miraculously not crashing, and actually landing in Columbus and even before midnight (11.28pm), now wondering if your luggage made it, then finding that your luggage is one of the first to come out, 1, 2, 3...where is the fourth suitcase?, then finding out one suitcase didnt make it, but you really don't care anymore, driving home, crashing into bed, being so glad you're home, having baby sleep well through the night, waking up the next morning, Henry still snoozing thinking he doesn't have to be in school till noon, getting a phone call at 8.30 am from a lady asking if Henry is on his way to clinic, since he has his first patients at 9.00 am, Henry still in bed sleeping, Henry falling out of bed after me telling him he has patients at 9am, then checking my mail to find an email from Continental Airlines telling us that our flight from Newark to Columbus on March 29 got cancelled (oh really? good to know), and that we are now booked onto a flight for Columbus on March 31 (thanks guys, wonderful customer service...there certainly is no faster way to Columbus from Newark than to wait for a flight for 2 days), then thinking: I am SO GLAD to be home...

Hopefully they will bring my suitcase today.

Is it just me, or has flying gotten a lot more complicated than necessary this last decade?

Luggage arrived 10 a.m. this morning! Woo hoo! I'm just glad it takes about 24 hours for us to get out to Germany. It's better than the 3 months it would take if we traveled by boat! It's worth the hassel though.

Fran and I are going to figure out how to be expert travelers, maybe we can figure out a carry on only option. That's the best.

Poor henry having to work after such an exhausting flight and Schulze wedding.
Henry.. a carry on option will never work knowing that there are lots of Schulzes in Germany waiting for their books, lotions, clothes, american food items etc etc. :)
