Here is a quick blog to get me started again for August. Henry and I watched 3 movies in the last week or so, and I just felt like writing about them after finishing the last one. The movies we had rented were Stardust, P.S. I love you and 10,000 BC.
Stardust was the first we saw, and we almost turned it off. It turned out to have some witty/funny stuff in it, and it was ok overall, but we just didn't quite agree with the morals of the movie. So, it only got an "ok" in our book.
Next we saw P.S. I love you. Well, actually, we didn't see it. Henry left before the movie had actually started (there was a little 5 minute prelude or so, before the movie started with, you know, all the writing of who is in the movie etc.). I gave it a few more minutes, but it continued to be weird, shallow, crude and so I turned it off pretty soon after Henry left. This movie got a "crappy" in our book.
Today we saw 10,000 BC, a movie Henry had gotten on my request. It wasn't actually what I expected it to be, nor what Henry expected it to be. We were both surprised and actually both really loved the movie. It has the flair of a fairy tale, with adventure and romance, but the good news is: it's chuck full of good morals. It's all about courage, honesty, brotherhood, sacrifices, team work etc. We enjoyed the sound track, the style of the movie, the story, the visual animation and everything else. This movie got an "awesome" in our book, and I can only recommend it to others.
Anyway, any good movies you've seen recently? Or, did I just criticize your recent favorites? I'm curious to hear about other movies and why you liked them/didn't like them.

HEctor and I went to the movies to see P.S. I love you. It wasn't much of his kind of movie,but I like this romantic comedies so we went.It was ok, but since the very beggining I was crying so much (which makes me unconfortable in front of unknowns) that I didn't enjoy the movie. I heard the book is much nicer, I'll try that one. But I don't like the topic ... so we'll see. I don't think I'd watch it again, even at home. Too tough for me.
hahaha, that's funny, Maria! Yeah, death of a spouse is not everyone's type of "entertainement".
Meike, we figured few would see what we saw in Stardust, but we don't like it when love is portrayed as seeing someone for 3 seconds, and then having sex, like Tristan's dad did with his mom, and actually, Tristan also had to get it on with his love once he realized he loved her. Since it was more of a fairy tale kind of movie, maybe they could have stuck with the good ol' fairy tale kind of morals, but no...let's just have sex whenever we feel like it. Those are not morals I think are worth portraying to a young audience.
There were a few minor other things as well, but that was the major stuff.
Rob and I really enjoyed watching Stardust, and I've recommended it to others. I guess I just overlook the bad morals because they're already in most movies we watch...even though I do agree that the morals are wrong. I just enjoyed the fantasy, story, creativity of the movie.
Never saw PS I love you...because of the rating for crudity.
Neither of us really liked 10000 BC. We liked the costuming, but we felt like the script and directing was wanting. The movie didn't seem to flow very well and seemed a bit choppy between scenes. It seemed like it tried too hard to be an epic film.
Anyway, those are our opinions...so different from yours! haha
I actually liked Stardust pretty well - much better than the book, actually. I saw snippets of P.S. I Love You on a plane (no audio) and could tell even from those few snippets that it was NOT a movie I would like - total trash.
Todd and I were also pleasantly surprised by 10,000 BC and like it a lot.
For other movies . . . do NOT waste your time on Hancock. It totally sucked and had lots of offensive stuff. It's not very often that I walk out of a theatre having not liked the movie at all - and I didn't like that one at all.
We just rented Penelope the other night and I actually really liked that one. It was a fun and very interesting storyline.
