from Chicago that is. I went to see my brother and wife with kids, which was fun. And I was going to take lots of pictures, and I even brought my camera to do it. But what do you know, when I pulled it out, and it wouldn't turn on, it turned out Henry had taken out the battery to charge it. No pictures. We had fun though, hanging out and it really made me want to do more to stay/be connected to my nieces and nephews. I really love them a lot, and realize how important it is to me to have a good relationship with them. I think my favorite thing of the trip was when I was sitting around the table for breakfast on Thursday morning with my 3 nephews and my niece, and I told each one of them things I remembered when they were babies (like Sophia - they were all over Sophia). They really loved hearing stuff about themselves, and how they were so loved, cute and special, and it made me wish that I had far more to tell than I did. Anyway, so it was fun to see them all, and to get to know my sis-in-law's aunts and uncles a little. On Friday, we went to Giordano's to have some Chicago-style pizza before I left for the drive home, and my brother and family left for the airport to fly back to Germany. Too bad I can't have hang out with my family more over here. :( Anyway, the trip was fun, and I should put in a little 'thank-you' here to my wonderful little Sophia, who was, once again, a true little saint in the car. I don't think it's easy for a 10-months old to sit patiently in the car for 6 hours. But she did. Thanks Sophia. I'm glad you're such a great travel buddy.
Speaking of Sophia, here are some more pictures of Sophia enjoying some food after 3 days of basically eating nothing but breast milk. She really didn't like the (nasty) jar food I brought for the trip, and so she didn't have much food to eat and choose from unfortunately (we were out in the middle of nowhere, with no store close by, and nothing really suitable in the fridge). She's been eating quite a bit since we've been back.

Glad you had fun in Chicago. That city is so much fun...and I LOVE that pizza! YUM. You should try some garrett's popcorn next time... if you haven't already...another yummy chicago treat. It makes me want to go there thinking about it.

Our baby Sophia, which you share with us, is so cute. Thanks. I love you, Sophia... She said Hi to me on the phone. Twice in a row. All done, hi, Mom, Papa. An early talker for sure.
Maybe that is why she and I relate! My dad said I started talking the day I was born and I never shut up after. What a nice thing for him to say. I was sure by that remark that he wanted me to keep on talking even more, so I did.
Oh I'm so glad you had fun - and the drive wasn't any longer than 6 hours :). Yea for Sophia being a great travel buddy too - I wanted to talk to you more about it on Saturday and didn't get a chance to, so I'm glad you posted!!
Did you think Giordano's lived up to the hype? If you go again, Portillos is famous for their Chicago dogs and they're super cheap! I'm glad you got to go see your fam and have fun!! I'm hoping that I love my own kid as much as I do my nephews! ;)
Thanks again Franzi for taking the time and making the effort to come and see us. I would have loved to have had more time too for sure. Can't wait to see you guys again - hopefully not too long away, Sophia will be so much bigger the next time we see her.
A gal from Germany, a guy from California, another BYU love story, 1 bunny named Killer, 2 little girls, 3 degrees, 4 bikes, books in every corner, drawings on the wall, music and dancing, vegetable garden on the balcony, chocolate and prosciutto, pitched tents in the living rooms, cloth diapers in the bathroom, laundry piles in the bedroom, unvaccumed stair way, unironed clothes, lots of hugs, a bunch of tears, some heart ache, some fights, some disappointments, much joy, lots of traveling, nightmares and night cuddles, trips to the ER - swearing included, diarrhea disasters in public bathrooms, marathons, bike rides, prayers, faith, hope and hopefully some charity. Happiness.
