What is behind that door?
Sophia really is a happy little girl and quite chipper (when she's not popping out two teeth). Today I took her to the doctor to make sure she doesn't have an ear infection (and she didn't...wow, 7 months old and no sicknesses yet other than colds, not bad...). Instead she was laughing and playing and just having fun. We frequently hear her wake up in the morning just screaming with joy. I love it. I don't know of many things that make me as happy as seeing Sophia laugh and talk and enjoy herself.
Anyway, what else is going on? Today I got all our pots ready for planting our veggies. We'll do tomatoes again, and then lettuce, zuccini, cucumbers maybe, and whatever else we can accommodate on our little balcony. I love growing my own veggies.
What I don't like is dieting away so hopelessly. Yesterday I really hit a very low low. I just wanted to cry all day (and I think I did for the most part). I felt overwhelmed with trying so hard to lose weight, and not losing any, and trying so hard to somehow get my baby to eat and she won't and trying so hard to be a nicer, better Fran, and just being the same old Fran...I think my body was screaming "GIVE ME SUGAR", and then fell apart because no sugar came. I'm sure the day would have been better with some 'Dove Unconditional Chocolate Ice Cream'. Oh well. It passed, and today was a good day. I even managed to find the high chair I've considered buying new for $90 on craigslist for $20. (It really pays off when your baby wakes up every 2 hours in the night, and you have time to look for unexpected deals on the computer).
So, life is good. I'm determined to be more chill now. Especially since it's getting warmer.
Henry continues to be my sugar replacement - sweet and delicious but not fattening. I don't know why I just wrote that. He's great though, and I'm so glad to have him keep me sane(ish).
Well, it is time to feed the sleeping babe. Let's hope that she'll sleep well for the rest of the night after this. But if not,...I'll just be so happy to spend more time with her. I love my little family.

Fran, may I ask what kind of a diet you are on? I'm not a big supporter of diets, I think they do more harm than good. If you want to loose weight, the best thing to do is cardio, at least one hour a day. And lots of breastfeeding. ;)
Isa, I've been doing everything on the planet to lose weight. I'm breast feeding all day long, I have been working out (cardio) for almost an hour each day, etc. and I didn't lose any weight. That's usually how it is for me. For me to shed any fat, I need to usually really watch what I'm eating AND work out like a maniac, and then maybe I'll lose a few pounds.
Right now I'm doing a Southbeach version along with interval workouts. So, 2 weeks of no sugar, and lots of veggies and proteins, and then after those two weeks, it's basically lots of veggies, protein, some fruit and some whole grains. It's fairly healthy.
But, I'm not a fan of diets either. I figure healthy eating and exercise should do the trick, right? This is only the 3rd time I've specifically dieted in my whole life, anyway. So, clearly it's not a habit. But my body really, really, really doesn't want to give up its fat without major battles.
I'm sorry it's such a battle for you. I suppose it always is... I still think you should increase your level of exercise, instead of doing high-protein diets. But that's just my opinion, and I will let you do what you want (how gracious of me ;))
hahaha! I wouldn't mind upping my exercise levels, but I only have so much time in a day that I can dedicate to working out. Even doing the 1 hour was hard to squeeze in...so, that's what it'll be for right now. Thanks for being so gracious for letting me do my thing. ;)
Franzi, I learned that in my personal experience, breast-feeding is a hinddrance and NOT a help to me losing weight after having a baby. It stresses me out and when my body feels stress it holds onto all the fat no matter how little I eat or how much I exercise. Once I stop nursing my babies I can finally start to lose a little bit of weight (though, like you, it only comes off with insanely massive amounts of work). Anyway, it sounds to me like you've been pretty stressed with the whole eating issue, etc. with Sofia and everything else - that very well might be contributing to the lack of success. Anyway, just thought I'd share because everyone always says taht nursing should help you lose weight and for me it does the opposite, along with the stress of the baby stage.
I'm starting to see some Schulze in Sophia's recent pictures. The ones in this post remind me a tad bit of Tori. Maybe you are her mom after all :-) Actually, the same thing happened with Kensi--everyone said she looked like Abe as a baby but now people say she looks just like me. I've heard its biologically beneficial for infants to look like their dads because then the dads know for sure it is their baby (as opposed to say the mailman's).
Yea, as others have said I wouldn't worry too much about losing more weight until you finish breast feeding. I find that initially after birth I'll loose a lot of weight pretty quickly but then the last few pounds holds on until I'm done.
Thanks Reni. I do feel like I can see more of a hint of myself in her, but also I see Henry now more in her. At first I didn't see anything but cuteness. :)
While I fully expect for some pounds to stay until I'm done breastfeeding, I sure hope that the 25 lbs I'm overweight are not the extra few pounds we're talking about...that's why I think my body shouldn't be so uptight. There's still plenty of fat to feed the baby if I drop a few pounds. Biology...love it or hate it, I guess.
Fran, how much more do you weigh now than you weighed before you got pregnant? You know they say that it takes 9 months to gain the pounds and 9 months to loose them. So if I were you, I wouldn't worry.
I breastfed for 18 months and I was so skinny by the end of it (the skinniest I've ever been). So I really don't believe that breastfeeding makes you NOT loose weight, especially since it burns up to 700 calories. Please don't stop breastfeeding because some people on here believe it causes your body to keep the extra pounds. That's a load of... you know.... and in complete disagreement with medical research.
I have no plans to quit breast feeding. I'd even quit the diet and efforts to lose weight if it interferes with breast feeding .I don't think anyone suggested that I ought to quit, but only that sometimes the weight loss isn't happening while breast feeding (though I've heard that often times it happens once you're done).
I have actually lost all my "pregnancy weight". I lost that months ago. It came off really fast. What didn't come off/hasn't come off yet are the many pounds I had on my bones before I got pregnant (25lbs). And those are the ones I'd like to part with. Right now I'm not even aiming for being my ideal weight. I'd just like to see some weight loss, maybe 10-15 lbs, and the other pounds can wait. I just really want to lose all that weight before I get pregnant again, and I don't want to have to lose 25 lbs when I'm done nursing and maybe wanting to try for No. 2...
You know, this time, I kept a lot more weight after the pregnancy than before...and luckily, I actually have a lot of friends around me who haven't lost all of their baby weight easily. So, I asked for a lot of advice while I was breastfeeding. Several of my friends have told me that it was impossible for them to lose a lot of weight while breast feeding. Many friends, myself included, noticed that their milk supply would drop when they cut too many calories. I don't know why breast-feeding advocates say that it makes losing weight easier for women...it may work for some (like Isa), but not for everyone. And if it doesn't work for you, then you feel like your body is abnormal or a failure when it's not...it's doing the right thing (just not what you want it to) And Deanna said something true, too. The stress can have a hindering effect (which I also find with me) in weight loss.
I totally admire your hard work and determination. I can tell you want that BL prize very, very much.
